Colour Up is a community group, supported by Redpoint Bristol.
Even though everyone loves climbing, traditionally it has been a white, cis male-dominated sport. This often ignored issue spurred Carlos, Mariana and Rodrigo to start Colour Up, a climbing group for people from the global majority, created in 2020.
Colour Up celebrates diversity in our sport, campaigns for equal access to indoors and outdoors climbing venues, and more actions towards the same goal: turn climbers into agents of change. More recently they’ve organised a Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Training, supported by Mountain Training and the BMC.
What to expect
The sessions are open to all abilities – especially those trying it for the first time! There’s no formal coaching during the session, but qualified Colour Up members are happy to show you the basics and ensure you climb safely, without sacrificing any of the fun.
Colour Up wants you to see climbing as a way to build community and mutual empowerment, and that’s precisely the focus of their sessions. Climb as little or as much as you want, connect with peers, and make the session your own.
Facilitators will gather at our café/reception area just before 6 PM. They’ll be wearing a Colour Up shirt or other identifier. If you can’t spot them, do ask our staff to direct you to them.

Apart from this, we encourage our members to use the group as a social hub: to look for climbing buddies, make new friends, or whatever else you need. This group belongs to you as much as it belongs to us.
